Von der Leyen Says US-Iran Agreement Should Lead to Immediate Reopening of Hormuz Strait

The agreement reached between the United States and Iran should pave the way for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday.

Commenting on the deal, von der Leyen stressed that the priority now was its swift and full implementation by all parties involved.

“Freedom of navigation must be restored without delay and without tolls. This is crucial for regional stability and the global economy, and it creates an opportunity for broader negotiations on peace and security in the Middle East,” she said.

Von der Leyen also noted that lasting peace in the Middle East could not be achieved while Lebanon remained engulfed in conflict.

“Europe once again urges all sides to respect Lebanon’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to work toward a genuine ceasefire,” she added.
