US-Iran ceasefire deal a ‘step back from the brink,’ says EU’s Kallas

The US-Iran ceasefire deal marks “a step back from the brink after weeks of escalation,” the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, said in a post on social media platform X.

“It offers a much-needed opportunity to reduce tensions, halt missile attacks, resume shipping, and make room for diplomacy toward a lasting agreement,” she added.

Kallas said she had spoken with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, stressing that avenues for mediation must remain open as the root causes of the conflict are still unresolved.

She also noted that the issue would be on the agenda during her visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
