Flights between Bangladesh and Riyadh have been cancelled following a series of Iran-backed Houthi militant attacks on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) said five flights were cancelled between Saturday and Sunday morning due to the attacks. The affected flights were operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, US-Bangla Airlines, Saudia and Riyadh Air.

Meanwhile, a US-Bangla Airlines flight that departed Dhaka for Riyadh on Saturday was diverted to Muscat International Airport in Oman amid the security situation in Riyadh. The aircraft subsequently returned to Dhaka.

At least 12 people were killed and 309 others injured in a Houthi missile attack on King Khalid International Airport around midnight on Saturday, according to reports.

The casualties reportedly included nationals of Bangladesh, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Sudan, Syria and the United States.

All flight operations at King Khalid International Airport have been suspended following the attack.
