Trump says Iran ceasefire has ended

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the ceasefire understanding with Iran had effectively come to an end, adding that he no longer wished to engage with Tehran.

The interim agreement, brokered by Pakistan, was designed to create a 60-day window for negotiations on a permanent settlement. However, indirect talks held in Qatar last week failed to produce any breakthrough, and the US military launched a fresh wave of strikes on Iran on Tuesday.

"To me, I think it's over. I don't want to deal with them," Trump told reporters ahead of a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey.

Standing alongside NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Trump sharply criticized Iran's leadership, saying: "They're scum. They're sick people. They're led by sick people. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time dealing with them."

On Tuesday, the United States also revoked a license that had allowed Iran to export oil, a move that came after three tankers were struck by projectiles in the Strait of Hormuz.

Under the interim US-Iran agreement, the US Treasury had issued a general license on June 22 permitting the sale of Iranian crude oil and petrochemical products until August 21. Following its revocation, Washington gave Iran until July 17 to wind down all transactions covered by the license.
