Bangladesh Railway has suspended all train services on the Cox's Bazar route after floodwaters submerged a section of the Chattogram–Cox's Bazar railway line between Janalihat and Sholoshahar stations.

The railway authorities also announced that passengers who choose to cancel their journeys will receive full refunds.

Confirming the development early Wednesday, Bangladesh Railway Director (Public Relations) Anisur Rahman said the Tourist Express, which left Dhaka for Cox's Bazar on Tuesday, was forced to terminate its journey at Chattogram. The train returned to Dhaka on Wednesday after its onward trip to Cox's Bazar was cancelled.

The Cox's Bazar Express, which departed Dhaka early Wednesday, has also been halted at Chattogram Railway Station. It will remain there until the affected section of the railway line is declared safe for operations.

To reduce passenger inconvenience, Bangladesh Railway has arranged alternative measures. Travellers who decide not to continue their journey can collect full refunds from the ticket counter at Chattogram Railway Station.

Passengers wishing to return to Dhaka may board the same Cox's Bazar Express, which is scheduled to leave Chattogram for the capital at 4:00pm.

Expressing regret for the disruption caused by the flooding, Bangladesh Railway said services on the route will resume only after the water recedes and the track is confirmed safe for train operations.
