“This victory belongs to democracy and to the people of Bangladesh,” said Tarique Rahman

Tarique Rahman, chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said on Saturday that his party’s triumph in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election is a victory for democracy and the people of Bangladesh, expressing gratitude to citizens nationwide for their support.

“This victory belongs to democracy, to Bangladesh, and to all those who strive for democratic ideals,” Tarique said, adding, “From today, we are free.”

He made the comments while speaking at a press conference in the afternoon at InterContinental Dhaka.

Tarique conveyed his heartfelt thanks to the people for securing the BNP’s win. “I offer my sincere congratulations to the people of this country. By overcoming every obstacle, we have cleared the way for democracy,” he said.

He also noted that the party is beginning its new chapter amid significant challenges, including a fragile economy inherited from what he described as fascist rule, weakened constitutional and statutory institutions, and a deteriorating law and order situation.
