The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case in court against two officials and eight other individuals involved in fraudulent appointments to the Family Planning Department in Sylhet. The case alleges the use of forged addresses and corruption. According to a press release by Nijhum Roy, Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC Sylhet Integrated District Office, the case was submitted to the Senior Special Judge's Court of the Sylhet Metropolitan Court on Thursday morning.

The case accuses two officials from the Family Planning Office of appointing eight individuals to government positions outside their jurisdiction and through corrupt practices, which is a punishable offense. These appointments occurred in 2022 and 2023. The accused officials are Lutfunnahar Jasmine, Assistant Director at the Sylhet District Family Planning Department (formerly acting Deputy Director, now temporarily suspended), and Varun Chhatri, a Family Planning Assistant in Jaintapur Upazila of Sylhet, who is currently stationed at the District Family Planning Office. The other individuals charged are Taslima Akhter, Tahsin Masuma Kochi, Shakti Rani Pal, Snigdha Biswas, Purnima Nam, Poli Rani Das, Monty Sarkar, and Poppy Das, all of whom are government employees.

The FIR states that these eight individuals falsified their permanent addresses in their job applications, substituting them with fake addresses from various upazilas in Sylhet district. Lutfunnahar Jasmine and Varun Chhatri are accused of colluding to illegally appoint these individuals through fraudulent means to gain financial benefits. The appointment letters were issued to the eight individuals despite being against the recommendations of the District Recruitment and Selection Committee. Following an investigation that confirmed the use of fake addresses, the case was filed after receiving approval from the ACC headquarters.
