Shama receives the body of migrant worker killed in Iraq missile strike

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Friday received the body of a Bangladeshi migrant worker who was killed in a recent missile strike in Iraq and handed over financial assistance to his grieving family.

The deceased, Mohammad Shrabon, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker, lost his life in a missile attack in Baghdad.

Under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad, the body was flown to Dhaka on a Turkish Airlines flight, which landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:45am.

Receiving the body on behalf of the government, Shama Obaed Islam expressed deep sorrow and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, according to a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Shrabon, the son of Mohammad Noli Mia from Bakultala village in Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, had been living and working in Baghdad for the last 10 years.

The body was transported from Baghdad International Airport on 27 May aboard Turkish Airlines Flight TK0843 and arrived in Dhaka after transiting through Türkiye.

After completion of all airport formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased’s father, wife, and daughter.

During the handover, the state minister provided Tk 35,000 to cover transportation and funeral expenses, along with a special grant of Tk 50,000 and additional financial assistance on behalf of the government.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Wage Earners' Welfare Board were also present at the airport.
