Salahuddin: July Martyrs, Fighters to Receive Constitutional Protection
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who also chairs the parliamentary committee on constitutional amendment, said Tuesday that a special provision will be incorporated into the Constitution to provide legal protection to participants of the July Uprising, including those who were killed or injured during the movement.
Speaking at a press briefing at the National Parliament, Salahuddin said the BNP-led parliament had already enacted legislation granting indemnity to July Uprising participants. He added that a constitutional provision protecting them from legal proceedings and scrutiny would also be introduced in the relevant section of the Constitution, responding to demands from injured participants and the families of those who died.
The briefing was held after a meeting with families of the martyrs and people injured during the movement.
