Malaysia Tightens Multiple-Entry Visa Rules for Bangladesh, 30 Other Countries

Malaysia has restricted multiple-entry visa (MEV) facilities for citizens of Bangladesh and 30 other countries, meaning Bangladeshi visitors will generally need to apply for single-entry visas for tourism and social visits.

The revised policy came into effect on September 1, 2026, according to a notice issued by Malaysia’s Immigration Department.

Under the new rules, Bangladeshis travelling to Malaysia for social visits will have fewer opportunities to obtain a one-year multiple-entry visa, with single-entry visas now generally applicable to such trips.

Malaysia’s Immigration Department has listed 31 countries whose citizens are covered by the revised arrangement, under which multiple-entry visas for ordinary social visits have been replaced by single-entry visas.

In a notice published on its website, the department said MEVs would no longer be issued indiscriminately to nationals of all countries from September 1.

However, multiple-entry visas will remain available for certain purposes, including business travel, medical treatment, fly-and-cruise trips and wedding tourism.

The revised policy specifically applies to visit visas issued for social travel, the Immigration Department said.

The change does not directly affect Bangladeshi or other foreign nationals working in Malaysia, nor does it alter their work permits or employment-related visas.
