Japan has extended a grant of 500 million Japanese Yen (around $3.3 million) to Bangladesh under the "Fourth Primary Education Development Programme" (PEDP4) to improve the quality of primary education in the country.
The Exchange of Notes formalizing the grant was signed on Thursday by IWAMA Kiminori, the Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, and Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky, Secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) of the Ministry of Finance.
A corresponding Grant Agreement was also signed by JICA Bangladesh Office Chief Representative ICHIGUCHI Tomohide and Md Shahriar Kader Siddiky.
During the ceremony, Ambassador IWAMA highlighted the critical role of education in national development, stating, "Education, which nurtures human resources, is essential for the future of any nation. Without education, there is no national development." He expressed hope that the support for PEDP4 would allow many children to receive quality education, noting that it would be one of many initiatives benefiting both countries.
With this latest grant, Japan has contributed a total of JPY 2.5 billion (approximately $16.7 million) to PEDP4, supporting various initiatives to achieve the programme’s goals.
