Journalist Shot Dead in Netrokona

A journalist was shot dead in Netrokona’s Durgapur upazila, nearly a year after surviving a brutal hacking attack.

Lutfuzzaman Alif Fakir, Netrokona correspondent for internet TV channel Ruposhi Bangla, was shot by two unidentified assailants at Utrail Bazar around 8:15pm.

Alif Fakir also operated a Facebook page titled “Detective Article”, where he regularly wrote about alleged irregularities and criminal activities.

Durgapur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khondokar Shaker Ahmed told reporters that the victim had sustained bullet wounds. Spent cartridges were also recovered from the scene.

Alif Fakir was rushed to the upazila health complex, where doctors declared him dead, the officer said.

Rabin Rangsa, a trader at Utrail Bazar and an eyewitness, said Alif Fakir had visited his shop that night to buy cigarettes. He accidentally left his mobile phone behind but returned shortly afterwards to collect it.

According to Rangsa, two unidentified young men began following the journalist after he left the shop. Gunshots were heard soon afterwards.
