EU delegation holds talks with Chief Election Commissioner

A European Union delegation met with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin on Tuesday as part of preparations for Bangladesh’s 13th parliamentary elections.
The meeting, which began at 11:00 am at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, was led by EU Ambassador to Bangladesh Michael Miller, bdnews24.com reported.
The six-member delegation also included Sebastian Rieger-Brown, First Secretary for Political Affairs; Enrico Lorenzone, Team Leader on Inclusive Governance; Michael Lidower, Senior International Advisor at the European Partnership for Democracy (EPD); Anas Wibawa, Director of the EPD’s Citizen Election Observers Component Project; and Tanja Nader, Programme Manager on Inclusive Governance in Bangladesh.
According to Election Commission officials, discussions were expected to focus on an EU-funded project. The delegation has been engaging with various stakeholders to review early preparations and initiatives linked to election monitoring.
Earlier, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said a pre-election observation mission from the European Union may arrive in Bangladesh by mid-September.
