Court sets Aug 20 for further probe report in Hadi murder case
A Dhaka court today set August 20 for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit the report on its further investigation into the sensational murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order after the CID failed to submit the report on the scheduled date.
On January 15, 2026, the court ordered the CID to carry out a fresh investigation after the complainant filed a naraji petition, expressing dissatisfaction with the charge sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police and seeking further investigation.
The DB's Inspector Foysal Ahmed submitted the charge sheet on January 6, accusing 17 people, including alleged shooter Foysal Karim Masud and his parents, Humayun Kabir and Hashi Begum.
According to the case statement, Foysal Karim Masud and Alamgir Hossain allegedly opened fire on Hadi while he was travelling in a battery-run auto-rickshaw on December 12, 2025, before fleeing the scene.
Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Zaber filed the case with Paltan Model Police Station on December 14.
Following Hadi's death on December 18, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddiq Azad on December 20 ordered the addition of Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case, which had initially been filed as an attempted murder case.
