Even the CA won’t be exempt if they betray: Sarjis
Anti-Discrimination Student Movement leaders are neither agents nor driven by a thirst for power, he says.
Sarjis Alam, a key coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has issued a stern warning that Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus will not be spared if he betrays the spirit of the July-August mass upsurge.
"We are not agents, nor are we power-hungry. If anyone betrays the ideals of the July-August mass upsurge, they will face consequences, even if it is Prof. Muhammad Yunus," he declared while speaking at an event organized by the July Martyred Memorial Foundation at Shilpakala Academy in Rajshahi on Saturday.
Sarjis also criticized the government for reassigning police officers involved in firing at students during the mass upsurge, instead of holding them accountable.
He alleged that certain political leaders and senior administrative officials have engaged in unethical dealings concerning cases related to the mass movement.
Commenting on the exhumation of the bodies of those killed during the uprising, Sarjis questioned its necessity. “If exhuming bodies wasn’t required for the trial of Sheikh Mujib’s murder, why should it be necessary for the July-August martyrs?” he asked.
On the matter of relations with India, Sarjis, who also serves as the general secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, stated that India must define the framework of the relationship.
"If India seeks good relations, it should ensure that Sheikh Hasina, the accused killer, is returned to Bangladesh. Her trial will take place on Bangladeshi soil," the student leader asserted.
