UN chief reiterates steadfast support and solidarity with Bangladesh
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated the UN’s unwavering support and solidarity with Bangladesh during a meeting with the country’s Foreign Minister, Khalilur Rahman, at the UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General extended warm congratulations to Bangladesh’s newly formed government and praised the country’s continued humanitarian leadership, particularly its generosity in hosting forcibly displaced Rohingya people.
The two sides also discussed several pressing global issues, including the ongoing oil crisis. The foreign minister highlighted the significant challenges faced by developing and vulnerable nations, stressing that rising energy costs disproportionately affect poorer countries.
On behalf of the prime minister, Dr. Rahman conveyed an invitation for Guterres to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time, which the UN chief welcomed with appreciation.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations in tackling global challenges and promoting sustainable development.
