Prime Minister directs immediate removal of congratulatory banners and billboards
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the immediate removal of banners and billboards put up across the capital to congratulate him and display his photograph.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said the directive was issued to the relevant authorities today.
“On Tuesday morning, while travelling from his Gulshan residence to his office, the Prime Minister noticed a banner bearing his photograph in front of Police Plaza in the Hatirjheel area. He immediately instructed that it be removed, and it was taken down promptly,” Ruman said.
He noted that several companies had also placed advertisements on billboards across the city featuring the Prime Minister’s photograph. “He has directed the authorities concerned to remove those advertisements without delay,” the additional press secretary added.
Ruman further said that a few days earlier, while passing through Bijoy Sarani, the Prime Minister saw his photograph displayed on an LED screen alongside congratulatory messages and ordered its immediate removal.
The Prime Minister arrived at his Cabinet Division office at the Bangladesh Secretariat at 9:10 am today. Following his arrival, Bangladesh Coast Guard Director General Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque paid a courtesy call on him.
During the meeting, Tarique Rahman instructed the Coast Guard to strengthen regular patrols in coastal areas and the Bay of Bengal to curb piracy, robbery and illegal trafficking, as well as to safeguard fisheries resources and ensure the safety of fishermen.
