Mild to moderate heatwave sweeps across parts of the country
A mild to moderate heatwave is affecting several parts of the country and could spread further, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) said in a bulletin issued on Friday morning.
According to the bulletin, the heatwave is currently sweeping across the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, along with the districts of Tangail, Faridpur, Manikganj and Nilphamari.
The highest temperature on Thursday was recorded in Chuadanga at 38.5°C.
Meanwhile, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning are likely at one or two places in the Sylhet division over the 24 hours from 9:00am Friday. Elsewhere, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with partly cloudy skies at times. Day and night temperatures may rise slightly across the country.
The bulletin also noted that a trough of low pressure lies over West Bengal and adjoining areas, while a seasonal low continues over the South Bay.
