Legal Adviser: Judiciary Remains Fully Independent Under Interim Government

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has affirmed that the judiciary operates with full independence under the current government.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of National Legal Aid Day at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Monday, he emphasized that the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs has no authority to interfere in cases pending before the higher courts.
Nazrul explained that it is solely the courts that decide when a case will be heard and its placement on the cause list, leaving no room for influence from the Law Ministry.
Reflecting on the previous administration, he described it as a "fascist regime" that disregarded rules and regulations, even forcing a chief justice into exile — a stark contrast, he stressed, to the current government, which does not interfere with the judiciary.
Commenting on the case filed against actor Iresh Zaker, Nazrul noted that while anyone is free to file a case, the authorities have been directed to investigate whether the filing was driven by commercial interests or has genuine legal merit.
