Donald Trump has congratulated Tarique Rahman on assuming office as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
In a message of congratulations, President Trump extended his best wishes to the new premier and expressed his eagerness to work closely with his administration. He underscored the need to deepen bilateral cooperation grounded in mutual respect and shared interests.
“Dear Mr Prime Minister, On behalf of the American people, I congratulate you on your historic election and wish you a successful term as Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” Trump said.
He noted that the partnership between the two countries rests on mutual respect and a shared commitment to promoting a free and open Indo-Pacific, where strong and sovereign nations can thrive. As Rahman begins his tenure, Trump said he hoped Bangladesh would help sustain the strong momentum in bilateral trade through the implementation of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade, which he described as beneficial to farmers and workers in both countries.
Trump also expressed hope that Bangladesh would take decisive steps to finalise routine defence agreements, enabling its military to gain access to advanced American-made equipment.
“I look forward to working with you to make the relationship between the United States and Bangladesh stronger than ever before. My Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent Christensen, has my full confidence. Together, we have an opportunity to make both of our nations more prosperous and secure. Good luck to you in the days ahead,” he added.
