The government of Bangladesh has expressed regret over the breakdown of negotiations and voiced deep concern about the latest escalation of violence in the Middle East, according to a statement issued on Saturday.

In response to the joint US-Israel strikes on Iran, Dhaka reiterated the need to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries in the region, the Foreign Ministry said. The statement stressed that conflict offers no solution and that disputes can only be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and adherence to international law. It called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint, prevent further escalation, and immediately engage in diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions.

Bangladesh reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to peace, stability, and security in the Middle East, urging the international community to step up efforts to restore calm and promote dialogue.

On Saturday evening, Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir, and the Foreign Secretary held an emergency meeting to assess the evolving situation. During the meeting, they also spoke with the Head of Bangladesh Mission in Tehran.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the suspension of air traffic and airspace has disrupted travel for Bangladeshi workers bound for the Middle East.

In this context, the government has requested the relevant countries to allow stranded Bangladeshi nationals, including migrant workers, to enter once the situation stabilises. Dhaka has received assurances from some countries in this regard.

Authorities have also taken steps to support stranded workers at various airports across Bangladesh.

Additionally, Bangladesh has initiated measures to ensure the safety and security of its mission in Tehran, its diplomats and staff, as well as Bangladeshi students residing in Iran.
