Yemen’s Houthi rebels fired missiles at the presidential palace complex in the southern port city of Aden on Thursday, killing two security guards, according to two government officials who spoke to Reuters.

Yemen’s Prime Minister and cabinet members present at the Maashiq presidential palace complex were unharmed, Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani said. He added that the Houthis had launched five missiles at the site.

The Houthi-run Saba news agency, citing a military official, reported that the group had targeted a military operations headquarters operated by Saudi officers within the complex, along with weapons depots. Reuters said it could not independently verify these claims.

Yahya Saree, the Houthis’ military spokesperson, said the strike on what he described as a Saudi military operations headquarters in Aden was part of the group’s stated policy of targeting Saudi military deployments wherever they are located.

Earlier, three witnesses told Reuters they had heard loud explosions near the presidential palace.
