Bangladesh Embassy Issues Urgent Advisory for Expatriates in Saudi Arabia
The Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh has urged Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia to exercise extreme caution when dealing with suspected criminal activities and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
In a notice issued on Monday (July 6), the embassy advised Bangladeshi nationals not to detain or physically assault anyone based solely on allegations of wrongdoing.
It said that any suspected criminal activity or witnessed crime should be reported immediately to the Saudi authorities. In emergencies, Bangladeshis were asked to contact Saudi emergency services by calling 999 or 911.
The embassy warned that under Saudi law, unlawfully detaining or physically assaulting a person—even if they are suspected of committing a crime—is a serious criminal offense.
It also urged all Bangladeshi citizens living in the Kingdom to remain vigilant, strictly follow local laws, and leave law enforcement matters to the relevant Saudi authorities.
