Government employees are now awaiting the official gazette notification following the government’s approval of the 9th National Pay Scale 2026.

Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said the gazette is likely to be issued by Wednesday (September 2) or Thursday (September 3).

The Finance Ministry’s notification will provide details of the revised basic salaries, pay grades and allowances under the new structure.

The Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, approved the National Pay Scale 2026 and the Armed Forces Joint Services Instructions 2026 at its meeting on Monday (August 31). The new pay structure will come into effect from July 1, 2026.

The revised salary structure was finalised based on recommendations from the National Pay Commission 2025 and the Secretaries Committee, while also taking into account inflation, the government’s fiscal capacity and the rising cost of living.

The existing 20-grade system has been retained, but basic salaries across all grades have been significantly revised.

  • 20th grade (lowest): The starting basic salary has been set at Tk 20,000, representing a 142% increase over the previous scale.

  • 1st grade (highest): The basic salary has been fixed at Tk 156,000, doubling the previous amount with a 100% increase.
