UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on March 13 for a four-day official visit at the invitation of the interim government’s Chief Adviser, Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York announced this to the media today, Wednesday. The Office of the UN Secretary-General has also confirmed the visit, stating that Guterres will be in Bangladesh from March 13 to 16.
This will be his second visit to the country, following his previous trip in July 2018.
Earlier, on February 7, Khalilur Rahman, Special Representative on Rohingya issues and Principal Adviser on priority matters to the Chief Adviser, met with Guterres in New York and handed over the official invitation letter.
Meanwhile, at Muhammad Yunus’ request, an international conference on the Rohingya issue, initiated by the United Nations, is planned for the second half of this year. Discussions are ongoing about hosting the conference in Doha, Qatar.
