Transport owners have been instructed not to increase bus fares without prior government approval.
The Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity (BSPMS) has directed transport owners not to increase bus fares without government approval, even after the recent hike in diesel prices.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Secretary General Md Saiful Alam said operators must continue charging the existing fares until an official decision is announced.
The association urged transport owners and workers nationwide to strictly follow this directive on all routes.
However, it also pointed to growing pressure on the sector, noting that a Tk15 per litre increase in diesel prices has sharply raised operating costs. It added that the strengthening of the US dollar has further driven up expenses for spare parts and vehicle maintenance.
Given the পরিস্থিতি, the association called on the government to revise fares in a realistic manner at the earliest to help the sector cope with rising costs and avoid losses.
