Saudi Airstrike Kills Nine Houthi Militants in Northern Yemen

An alleged Saudi airstrike in northern Yemen killed at least nine people and injured 16 others on Sunday, according to Houthi media, amid escalating clashes in the country's renewed civil war.

The Iran-backed group's Saba news agency reported that an airstrike struck a residential home in Saada governorate, killing nine people and injuring 16 others, most of them women and children. It added that the casualty figures could rise.

The Saudi-led coalition has carried out hundreds of airstrikes in Yemen in support of the internationally recognised government since renewed fighting intensified in the country's long-running conflict.

After remaining largely dormant for years, the conflict reignited in July and escalated further following the Houthis' seizure of parts of Yemen's Red Sea coastline last month.

In recent weeks, the Houthis have repeatedly targeted Saudi interests, including vessels in the Red Sea, oil facilities and Riyadh's international airport. One attack on the airport last week reportedly killed 13 people.

The Houthis claim that Saudi airstrikes carried out since the beginning of September have killed dozens of people.
