Fakhrul sees a fresh opportunity to build a liberal democratic Bangladesh.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday said a new opportunity has emerged for the nation to build a liberal democratic Bangladesh.
“People are now hopeful, as the conditions have been created to establish a liberal democratic Bangladesh,” he said.
Fakhrul made the remarks while addressing a programme organised by the BNP, where party Chairman Tarique Rahman exchanged greetings with journalists.
He said Tarique Rahman returned from London at a time when the country is passing through a challenging phase.
According to Fakhrul, people across the country are looking to Tarique Rahman with renewed hope for rebuilding the nation, encouraged by his earlier speeches delivered virtually.
The programme formally began around 11:20am with a recitation from the Holy Quran.
Earlier, the BNP chairman arrived at the venue at around 10:52am and greeted editors and journalists, moving from table to table.
In his inaugural speech, Fakhrul recalled the contributions of late BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia to democracy and the nation.
He also prayed for the eternal peace of Khaleda Zia, who passed away on December 30 last year.
Fakhrul further paid tribute to the martyrs of various democratic movements and the July mass uprising of 2004, recalling their role in paving the way for the restoration of democracy.
