Woman’s Semi-Decomposed Body Recovered in Mirpur, Family Lives in Canada
Just days after the recovery of elderly woman Nurjahan Begum’s decomposed body sparked widespread public concern, police have recovered the semi-decomposed body of another woman from the same area in the capital’s Mirpur.
The body of 55-year-old Selina Afroz was found inside her apartment in Mirpur-6 on Wednesday night (3 June). According to police, she had been living alone in the flat for an extended period.
Upon receiving information, police recovered the body and sent it to a hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Md Hanif, investigation officer of Pallabi Police Station, said an unnatural death case is being processed. The exact cause of death will be determined following the completion of the investigation and post-mortem examination.
Local sources said Selina’s husband and two children currently reside in Canada. She returned to Bangladesh around 12 years ago and had been living alone in the apartment since then.
Police suspect she died sometime between 26 May and 3 June. Family members reportedly last spoke to her over the phone on the night of 26 May, after which all communication with her ceased.
The incident comes only days after the recovery of the semi-decomposed body of 75-year-old Nurjahan Begum from another residence in the same area on 31 May. That case drew significant public attention and reignited discussions about the welfare and care of elderly people living alone.
