Trump’s Latest Tariff Move Fails to Address Global Forced Labor Problem
President Donald Trump's threat to impose new tariffs on trading partners accused by the United States of failing to combat forced labour is unlikely to curb modern slavery and could potentially worsen the problem, according to experts, business groups and some human rights advocates.
In its latest trade measure, the Trump administration proposed additional tariffs of 10% or 12.5% on imports from 60 countries, arguing that they had not done enough to prevent trade in goods produced through forced labour. The allegation was rejected by several US trading partners.
