The United Nations reported that approximately 7,900 people lost their lives along migration routes in 2025.
Around 7,900 people are confirmed to have died along migration routes in 2025, with an additional 1,500 reported missing and feared dead, the United Nations migration agency said on Tuesday.
The International Organization for Migration added that its Missing Migrants Project has recorded more than 80,000 deaths and disappearances linked to migration since 2014.
While these figures likely represent only a minimum estimate of the true toll, the agency said they highlight the urgent need for action to prevent migrant deaths and to support the families left behind.
