Thirteen women nominated by the Jamaat-led alliance have reached the Election Commission (EC) to submit their nomination papers for the reserved seats in the 13th National Parliament.

The candidates arrived at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka, and formally filed their papers with Returning Officer Md. Moin Uddin Khan on Monday morning (21 April).

From Jamaat-e-Islami, the nominees are Nurunnessa Siddiqua, Marzia Begum, Sabikun Nahar Munni, Mardia Momtaz, Nazmun Nahar Nilu, Mahfuza Siddiqua, Sajeda Samad, and Shamsun Nahar.

Alliance partners also put forward candidates, including Monira Sharmin and Mahmuda Alam Mitu of the Jatiya Nagorik Party, and JAGPA Chairman Tasmia Pradhan.

Additionally, Mahbuba Hakim of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish and Rokeya Begum—the mother of Jabir Ibrahim, a child killed during the July mass uprising—submitted their nomination papers as alliance candidates.

Under existing rules, the 50 reserved women’s seats are allocated proportionally based on the number of seats secured by parties or alliances. Accordingly, the BNP-led alliance is set to receive 36 seats, the Jamaat alliance 13, and the Independent alliance one.

As per the EC schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on April 22 and 23, while the deadline for withdrawal is April 29. Voting, if required, is scheduled for May 12.

Only MPs elected to general seats are eligible to vote in these elections. However, since each alliance has nominated candidates equal to its allocated seats, no voting is expected.

The candidates are therefore likely to be declared elected unopposed after the withdrawal deadline.
