A female garment worker lost her life in a road accident in the Chairman Bari area of Banani, Dhaka, while another was injured. The incident took place around 6 am on Monday.

In protest, workers from two garment factories blocked roads, causing severe traffic congestion in Banani, Mohakhali, and Gulshan. By 8:30 am, traffic had come to a standstill in these areas, including the Dhaka Elevated Expressway. Congestion on the expressway began easing around 10:30 am.

The deceased has been identified as Minara Akhter, while the injured worker, Sumaiya Akhter, has been admitted to Kurmitola General Hospital. Details about how the accident occurred remain unclear.

Commuters faced significant delays, with some having to walk long distances. Golam Wadud, a private-sector employee, said he was stuck in traffic at Banani around 7:45 am and had to walk for over an hour to reach Karwan Bazar.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge Russell Sarker confirmed that the worker was struck while crossing the road, prompting the ongoing blockade by garment workers.
