Bangladesh rejects Tulsi Gabbard's remarks as inaccurate and harmful
Gabbard's remarks lack supporting evidence or specific allegations.

Reacting to remarks by DNI Tulsi Gabbard, the interim government on Monday dismissed her statements as baseless, emphasizing that linking Bangladesh to an "Islamist caliphate" undermines the efforts of countless Bangladeshis and their international partners dedicated to peace, stability, and progress.
In a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s press wing, the government strongly condemned any attempts to associate Bangladesh with an "Islamist caliphate." Expressing deep concern over Gabbard’s remarks, the government refuted her allegations of "persecution and killing" of religious minorities and claims that the "threat of Islamic terrorists" in Bangladesh stems from an ideology aimed at establishing such a caliphate.
The interim government stated that Gabbard’s comments are both misleading and damaging to Bangladesh’s image, a nation known for its inclusive and peaceful practice of Islam and its significant progress in combating extremism and terrorism.
"Gabbard's remarks lack any supporting evidence or specific allegations and unfairly generalize an entire nation," the government asserted.
Bangladesh acknowledged the global challenge of extremism but highlighted its consistent efforts—through law enforcement, social reforms, and counterterrorism initiatives—undertaken in collaboration with the international community, including the US. The government urged political leaders and public figures to base their statements on facts and avoid reinforcing harmful stereotypes, spreading fear, or inciting sectarian tensions.
"The Interim Government of Bangladesh remains committed to constructive dialogue rooted in facts, mutual respect, and the shared global mission to combat extremism and terrorism while upholding the sovereignty and security of all nations," the statement concluded.
