Jahangirnagar University (JU) has decided to remove the name “Bangabandhu” from its Bangabandhu Institute of Comparative Literature and Culture.

This decision was reached during a syndicate meeting held in the university’s new administrative building on Sunday evening, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kamrul Ahsan.

Following the meeting, JU Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sohel Ahmed confirmed the decision to the media, stating, “The name change was approved in response to student demands.”

Commenting on the decision, Meherab Sifat, coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at JU, said, “Following the mass uprising, we have fought against discrimination to create a new Bangladesh. The Comparative Literature and Cultural Institute has a history of oppression, and our movement for anti-discrimination has succeeded with this name change.”
