The Indian High Commission in Dhaka has called on Bangladeshi authorities to investigate the theft of a crown that was presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Satkhira, urging steps to recover it. "We have seen reports regarding the theft of the crown gifted by PM Modi during his 2021 visit to Bangladesh," the High Commission stated in a Friday release.

The commission expressed its concern and urged the Bangladeshi government to take action against those responsible. According to a report, the incident was reported around 3 PM on Thursday.

CCTV footage from the temple captured a young man entering at 2:49 PM. He was seen standing behind the idol before quickly hiding the crown under his T-shirt. Dressed in jeans and a white T-shirt, the man appeared calm and composed as he looked around before taking the crown.

Locals remarked that the man seemed well-trained.

Temple priest Dilip Banerjee mentioned that he had locked the temple and left for home after 2 PM. At around 2:30 PM, Rekha Rani, responsible for temple maintenance, unlocked the entrance to clean the worship plates and glasses. When she returned to fetch remaining items, she discovered that the crown had been stolen and immediately alerted others about the incident.

Shyamnagar police station Officer-in-Charge Fakir Taizur Rahman confirmed that the superintendent of police and other senior officers had visited the site. He also reported that army officials had arrived and begun their own investigation.
