  • Candidates are allowed to participate in the Bangladesh Civil Service Examination a maximum of three times
  • The government has sanctioned an increase in the maximum age limit for applying for public service jobs to 32 years.

This decision was reached during a meeting of the interim government's advisory council, as stated in a press release from the Cabinet Division today. The ordinance received approval after discussions within the advisory council.

The maximum age limit for entry into all categories of the Bangladesh Civil Service and other government positions will now be set at 32 years. For autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, the respective recruitment rules will be adapted accordingly.

The existing recruitment rules for the Defense Services and Law and Order Forces will continue to apply, as mentioned in the release.

Furthermore, under this ordinance and the authority granted by Section 59 of the "Government Employment Act, 2018," the Ministry of Public Administration will revise the "Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification, and Examination) Rules, 2014." The number of attempts a candidate can make in the Bangladesh Civil Service Examination will also be limited to three, according to the press release.

Currently, there is no limit on the number of times candidates can take the exams.

The existing age limit stands at 30 years, with an allowance of 32 years for the children of freedom fighters.

For several years, graduates have been advocating for an increase in the government job entry age limit to 35 years. They have frequently blocked the Shahbagh intersection during protests.

The demonstrations escalated after the government announced on September 22 that it had no plans to raise the age limit.

In response to a massive protest by hundreds of job seekers in front of the chief adviser's residence, a review committee was established on September 30.
