12 High Court judges suspended from judicial duties amid student protests
The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to bar 12 High Court judges from performing judicial duties when the court resumes on October 20. Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed made the decision after hundreds of students from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement besieged the High Court premises, demanding the removal of "pro-Awami League fascist judges."
Supreme Court Registrar General Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan announced today, "Twelve High Court judges will not be assigned benches, meaning they will not participate in judicial activities when the court reopens on October 20."
Following the announcement, the protesting students suspended their movement until Sunday.
