The government has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy on mob violence, stressing that no individual or group is permitted to take the law into their own hands.

Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister, Zahed Ur Rahman, said, “Mob violence or lynching will not be accepted under any circumstances. No matter how serious the offence, only the state has the authority to administer punishment.”

He made the statement during a press briefing at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, where he also outlined the progress of various government initiatives.

Zahed Ur Rahman noted that incidents of mob violence were widely tolerated during the interim government period, fostering a troubling tendency in society to bypass legal procedures.

“The current government is strictly enforcing a zero-tolerance approach to such acts and remains committed to upholding law and order,” he added.

Turning to other initiatives, the adviser said the Ministry of Agriculture has already begun distributing farmer cards.

“Under a pilot programme, 21,014 farmers across eight divisions will receive the cards. If the initiative proves successful, it will be expanded in the next fiscal year to cover more farmers,” he said.
