Government forms committee to safeguard economy amid global conflicts
The government has formed a cabinet committee to develop a crisis management plan aimed at safeguarding the country’s economic stability amid the current global conflict situation.
The Cabinet Division issued a notification on Monday announcing the formation of the committee, which will be chaired by the finance minister.
The move comes as global economies face mounting pressure from the ongoing US-Israeli war against Iran and the prolonged Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The committee’s members include the ministers of local government, rural development and cooperatives; home affairs; power, energy and mineral resources; commerce; expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment; and food.
According to the notification, the committee will analyse war situations in different parts of the world, assess their potential impact on Bangladesh, and formulate strategies to help maintain economic stability.
It will also have the authority to co-opt additional members if required, and meetings will be held as necessary. The Finance Division will provide secretarial support to the committee.
