Govt orders use of virtual platforms for official meetings to conserve energy
The Cabinet Division has instructed government offices to use virtual platforms for meetings, workshops and training programmes to help reduce fuel consumption amid the prevailing global energy situation.
The directive was issued today through a circular by the Field Administration Coordination Wing of the Cabinet Division.
According to the circular, all ministries, divisions and field administration offices have been asked to take necessary measures to minimise fuel use while ensuring efficient, effective and uninterrupted government operations.
The circular says priority should be given to connecting field-level participants virtually in meetings, workshops, training sessions and other programmes organised by ministries and divisions.
Under the directive, participants at the district level should join divisional programmes virtually, while upazila-level participants should be connected online to programmes held at the district level.
It also notes that physical meetings, workshops or training sessions may be arranged when necessary. However, such decisions must be taken by the relevant authorities based on appropriate justification.
The Cabinet Division has requested all ministries, divisions, divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and upazila nirbahi officers to take the required steps to implement the directive effectively.
At the same time, the latest circular cancels an earlier directive on the same issue issued on April 22 this year.
The move is being viewed as a significant measure to conserve fuel and promote the wider use of information technology in government administration.
