Iranian gunboat targets container vessel off Oman coast, says maritime agency

A container ship came under fire from an Iranian gunboat off the coast of Oman on Wednesday, sustaining damage but with no casualties reported, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said.

“The master of the vessel reported it was approached by an IRGC gunboat, which then opened fire, causing significant damage to the bridge. No fires or environmental impact were reported,” the agency said.

The UKMTO added that the incident occurred about 15 nautical miles northeast of Oman and that all crew members were safe.
