Titumir students obstruct rail line and road in Mohakhali
Students of Government Titumir College have blocked the rail lines in Mohakhali and maintained their blockade on the Gulshan-Mohakhali road today, demanding the college be upgraded to a university.
At around 3:45 pm, approximately 70-80 students gathered and set up bamboo barricades on the railway tracks in Mohakhali, disrupting train movement. A train was seen stranded on one side of the tracks. Protest organizer Ali Ahmed announced via loudspeaker that the blockade would continue until the chief adviser or education adviser arrived to declare the college a university.
"We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the public, but the state has left us with no choice," he stated.
Since 12:20 pm, students have also been blocking the Mohakhali-Gulshan road in front of the college gate, causing significant disruption to commuters. Using handheld microphones, protesters declared that no vehicles, except for emergency services, would be allowed through until their demand was met.
The students had initially planned to block both the road and railway from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm today. However, the blockade was delayed due to Saraswati Puja celebrations on campus, according to Mainuddin, a master's student in the Economics department.
Meanwhile, around 10 students have been on a hunger strike for the past five days. Three have already been hospitalized, while the others continue their strike with saline support.
