The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has upheld the High Court's ruling that dismissed the proceedings of five labor law cases filed against Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Adviser of the interim government. This decision followed the rejection of separate leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the state against the High Court’s verdict. The ruling was delivered on Sunday by a bench led by Senior Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam.
Dr. Yunus was represented by senior lawyer Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan, while Additional Attorney General Anik R Haque represented the state.
On October 24, a High Court bench consisting of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain canceled the proceedings of five labor law cases and one defamation case against Dr. Yunus. The cases were filed during the previous Awami League government's tenure, accusing Dr. Yunus, who was then the chairman of Grameen Telecommunications, of violating labor laws.
The cases were initiated in the labor court in 2019 on behalf of dismissed workers regarding a proposed trade union.
